Art is incredibly personal to me because it helps me further understand myself and others. My diverse background directly effects the subjects I paint. I am a Chinese Jewish American who grew up in a Caucasian upper-middle class community, which shaped the way I see and act in the world; but, not the way that the world sees me. While my background gives me a uniqueness that I am fortunate to have, it has taken me a long time to find where I fit in. I have had many influences in my life like my family, my friends, and my professors, which makes it more difficult to identify where I am truly from. Art gives me the opportunity to explore and discover where I belong.
